Mrs. Plas' Virtual Classroom

Welcome to your on-line science classroom. I will use this website to inform you of what we did in class and also to remind you of important upcoming dates! I am so glad you are in my class this semester, and I look forward to discovering science with you! My goal is simple; to help you achieve yours!

Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.

The first official week of summer is over!!!  I still can’t believe that my first year of teaching is over!  I definitely had my ups and downs, but made it out on the other side a much more experienced professional.

My first adventure this summer was a trip to NYC with the choir.  Twenty-five kids and four sponsors embarked on the journey last Thursday morning at 2 AM.  We had four, fun-filled days of sight-seeing and great eating!  We saw two Broadway shows; Mary Poppins and Hairspray.  We also had the chance to attend a workshop with one of the swings in Hairspray.  The sites we saw included the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Radio City Music Hall, Ground Zero, St. Patrick’s cathedral, Wall Street, 5th Avenue, and Trump Tower.  It was an awesome experience and I enjoyed getting to know so many new students that I had only come to know by name!!!!

Hope your summer is going great!  The weather is a little chilly today, but it should get better!

Summer is almost here!!  Get ready to soak up the sun!!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

I can’t believe this will be my last post for the 2007-2008 school year.  This afternoon, you will start taking your finals.  And hopefully by Friday, you will be ready to set off for a fun summer!

Conceptual physics, I will see you at 8:00 AM on Thursday for your final project presentation.  We will switch board games and see who made the most entertaining game.

Biology, I will see all of you during Block 3 on Thursday from 1:40-3:10.  Don’t forget which room you are in!!

And physics, 5th period will be from 12:30-2:00 today and 6th period will be from 2:05-3:35.

Good luck to the Class of 2008 as they head out into the world.  You will go very far as long as you have faith in yourself and you never settle for less than your best!

To the rest of you, I will be teaching Conceptual Chemistry, Physics, and Conceptual Physics next year, so I look forward to seeing some of you in the fall!

Have a safe and fun summer!!

Happy 76th Birthday, Goofy!!

There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, ‘It is just as I feared!
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!’
Happy Limerick Day!!!

Monday, May 12th

It’s the last Monday of the school year!!  It’s also Senior Day, so the halls are empty while the seniors are practicing for graduation and then enjoying an afternoon off to get ready for all the friends and family that will be coming this weekend!!!  The year is winding down, and it’s time to start thinking about finals!  Don’t forget our altered schedules which starts tomorrow with 5th period.  If you need a finals schedule, stop off in the office to pick yours up!

In conceptual physics, you continued working on your board game.  Don’t forget your game pieces and dice.  Also, you need to start digging up those grading rubrics I gave you for this project as you will need to turn those in on Thursday.

In biology, I handed you a review packet when you walked in and you had the entire class to try and find the answers.  The packet covered the topics of animal behavior, the nervous system, muscles, bones and skin.  As I said today, every single question on your semester exam came off of a review worksheet so I hope you have been keeping these!  If you have any last minute questions, don’t hesitate to ask!!!

And in physics, we used the first half of class to go over the review packet.  I let you ask any last minute questions and we also went over your notecard that you will be able to use on the exam.  The second half of class was spent watching “Mythbusters.”  You just can’t do that much with so many people gone!!!

Have a wonderful day!
