Mrs. Plas' Virtual Classroom

Welcome to your on-line science classroom. I will use this website to inform you of what we did in class and also to remind you of important upcoming dates! I am so glad you are in my class this semester, and I look forward to discovering science with you! My goal is simple; to help you achieve yours!

Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.

Happy Tuesday!!!  Don’t forget about the schedule changes we have coming up this week; Wednesday we will have dismissal at 1:30 for a pep rally, Thursday will be a 12:00 out, and Friday is state soccer in Omaha.  If you will be gone on Friday for the game, just let me know ahead of time so I can make sure you are ready for your semester test next week!

In conceptual physics, you continued working on your board game designs.  Just a few reminders; I think it is best to start with the instructions—that way you have your framework done and have something to base your design off of; also, make sure that this is your game and not another board game tweaked a little to fit this physics class.  Get creative and have fun!!!

In biology, today was the day to review genetics.  We started the class by listening to the song, “I Am My Own Grandpa.”  A strange, but true, story out of New York.  After the song, I challenged you to draw a family pedigree for the narrator of the song.  A few of the lines got pretty messy, but most of you did a great job on this!!  After the ultimate pedigree challenge, I handed out a worksheet that went over drawing punnett squares and homozygous and heterozygous crosses.  At the end of class, I told you about an extra credit opportunity.  A lot of you are unhappy with your 4th quarter grade, so you need to make sure to take advantage of this worksheet.  It is worth 15 points on your total grade and will be due on Thursday.

And in physics, I handed back your tests from yesterday.  The average for all of my physics students was a 95%.  That is awesome and let’s me know that you truly grasp the concepts of series and parallel circuits.  Today, and for the rest of our time together, we will be reviewing for your semester exam.  I wanted to refresh your memory today, so we spent the first 10 minutes reviewing lenses and mirrors.  We re-visited image height, focal point, convex and concave, and the equations that go with all of these.  I also gave you your 3x5 notecard that you may use on your exam.  As long as everything is hand written, you may put anything on there that you please!

And don’t forget to thank a teacher today as it is National Teacher’s Day!!
